The R8 spindle was made by a friend and myself and another friend designed the power drawbar setup for it, the motor mount and spindle mount. I've since upgraded to a DMM 750W servo motor. All of my build info is on the Taig facebook group. FYI, the spindle (and everything else) was designed and made from scratch just for the TTS system.

This required a pneumatic actuator, two pneumatic solenoids, a stepper and driver, and three limit switches, as well as the BOB space to handle all this control. You can pretty easily calculate the drawbar force if you know the thread and torque spec. For an R8 it's a 7/16″20 and I would typically expect 2030ftlbs of torque.this works out to 2700 ...

The price of a 440 plus the PathPilot controller is 5700 or so. If you got a PM25 and converted as closely to the 440 as you could (ballscrews with double nuts, oiler system, limit switches, MESA card, computer, breakout boards, NEMA42 steppers, etc), you'd come really close to 5000. I spend around 4500 on mine.
